It was a busy weekend for NCAA Division 1 women’s soccer programs as the 2015 season got underway last Friday.  Rio Rapids is thrilled to have had 17 alumni see action in games over the weekend.  New Mexico State University opened its season against Eastern Washington on Sunday with five Rio Rapids alumni in the starting lineup:  Gabby Campbell (95’s), Mariah Baker (97’s), Rebecca Mazzie (97’s), Dominique Rivera (97’s) and Sabrina Ruiz (97’s).  Two other players also played for the Aggies:  Samantha Afonso (97’s) and Audriana Chavez (97’s).

Three players saw action in the Big 12 Conference over the weekend.  Cassie Boren (97’s) played in both of Texas Tech’s games including a start in a 1-0 win over UNM.  Kaley Smith (94 Eagles) and Ashley Williams (94 Eagles) both started for Kansas in their opening game.

Caity Acosta (97’s) saw action in both games for Abilene Christian University (TX).  Emily Cubbage (94 Eagles), started both games for St. John’s University (NY) as the team opened the season with two wins.  Natalie DuBoise (96’s) started both games for Lipscomb University (TN) helping her team to a win over Ball State University and a tie with Tennessee.  Monica Gebler (96’s) started both games for Louisiana Tech University helping the team to two wins.  Lauren Milliet (97’s) started both games for Colorado College and scored the game winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Northern Colorado on opening day.  Erika Nelson (94 Eagles) played for Maryland in an opening day win against Kent State.  Tristen Spooner (97’s) started for Idaho State University in their match over the weekend.
