Bryan Huskisson Named Goal Keeping Director

Rio Rapids Soccer Club is excited to announce Bryan Huskisson (a.k.a. Whitey) as the new Goal Keeping Director.

Having grown up in Albuquerque and played youth soccer in Rio, Whitey has been coaching soccer for the last 29 years.  Whitey holds a USSF National B License and is also the current NMYSA Boys Goalkeeping Instructor and owner of NM Goalkeeper Academy  

“I am excited to return to Rio where I started as a youth player, as well as, coached early in my career. I’m looking forward to working with the accomplished Rio coaching staff and to be affiliated with a professional organization.  This is an excellent opportunity to establish a consistent goalkeeping curriculum and training schedule that will breed a new generation of successful youth GK’s! 

Girls U9-U12 Director Simon Rothman States “Adding Whitey to the Rio Rapids coaching staff is a huge positive. He brings an extremely high level of coaching expertise in the goalkeeping field, along with a passion and desire to elevate the level of goalkeeping in this state. His energy and commitment to his goalkeepers is second to none and I am excited to have the opportunity to work with him.

Whitey will begin work for Rio Rapids on Aug 1st.

Rio Rapids SC wins 7 NM State Championships!!

Teams from Rio Rapids were once again dominant over state cup finals weekend winning 7 state titles and having 6 teams take 2nd place. The winning teams who now move on to Region IV Regional Championships were as follows:

  • U18B – Rio 99
  • U15G – Rio 02
  • U16G – Rio 01

Rio Rapids Soccer Club is excited to announce Mike Erwin as the new Girls U13-U14 Director.

Having grown up in Albuquerque playing youth soccer and has been a youth coach for over 12 years. One of Mikes first soccer jobs is was in Rio Vista F.C. working in our soccer school and now some 11 years later mike is rejoining the club.

Mike earned his bachelors degree in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of New Mexico and holds a USSF National C License and Youth License.

“Many times things come full circle. I am excited to return to Rio Rapids Soccer Club. I believe their player development and college search program is second to none. I am excited to utilize my 10+ years of coaching experience to continue to help Rio Rapids grow to not only a top program regionally but nationally. I look forward to learning from the vastly experienced coaches staff at Rio Rapids and their parent club Colorado Rapids.”

Girls U15-U19 Director Chris Brennan States “As a club we are delighted to add Mike to our full time coaching staff. He brings a high level of coaching expertise but also a competitiveness and desire to be successful that is energizing to his players and fellow coaches. Mike will compliment the current Rio director group extremely well and he will become an integral part of the club as we continue to push and develop all players and staff to a higher level. “

Mike will begin work for Rio Rapids on July 1st.

RRSC Teams Support The Gift of Soccer

Over the weekend the RRSC U17Bs Scorpions and RRSC U13Gs Thrash teams helped the Gift of Soccer with their international donation Pack-Up Event.   Members of the UNM Lobos Womens’s Soccer team also joined to help with the efforts.  Together they help pack-up over 1200 pieces of soccer gear that is headed to kids in the jungles of Ecuador, via Hope Christian High School’s Annual Charity Trip.

RRSC Players Playing with SC Del Sol

Both Hannah Gallegos (Rio Rapids 00G) and Arianna Cisneros (Rio Rapids 01G) have continued to play in the ECNL with SC Del Sol out of Phoenix this spring. Both players played in the ECNL National Event in Phoenix in April and Hannah also traveled to Southern California to play in ECNL league fixtures with SC Del Sol.

Congratulations to Hannah and Arianna on representing Rio Rapids SC so well on the ECNL national stage and thanks to SC Del Sol for allowing us to provide these opportunities to the elite players in New Mexico.This type of working partnership is what makes Rio Rapids SC the premier destination for elite female soccer players.

Colorado Rapids, at the Generation Adidas Cup

Great to see ex Rio Rapids SC players, Armando Munoz-Zarate, Jayson Baca and Milo Garvanian, who now represent the Colorado Rapids, at the Generation Adidas Cup this week in Dallas. The boys played against Malaga, Atlanta United and River Plate in the group stages of the competition, great job boys!
