Rio Rapids SC is proud to announce that 81 of its alumni (50 females and 31 males) were a part of college soccer programs throughout the country during the Fall of 2015. Sixteen of these players helped their team reach post-season tournaments with Ryan Hunter (97’s) a key player for the Trinity University (TX) team that made it all the way to the NCAA Division 3 quarterfinals, Taylor Settecerri (94’s) and Caitlin Christiansen (97’s) contributors for St. Edwards University (TX) and Hardin-Simmons University (TX) reaching the sweet 16 of the NCAA Division 2 and 3 tournaments, Cassie Boren (97’s) starting for the Texas Tech University team that advanced to the NCAA Division 1 second round, and six players (Caitlin Espinoza-93’s, Jordan Hix-94’s, Brooke Milliet-94’s, Shayla Malecki-95’s, Jessica Singleton-96’s, Jenna Brown-97’s) leading Fort Lewis College (CO) to the NCAA Division 2 first round. Emily Cubbage (94’s) at Division 1 St. Johns University (NY), Luke and Tyler Cotter (94’s) at Division 3 University of Texas-Dallas, John Jamison (95’s) at Division 2 Colorado Mesa University, Parker Conaway (97’s) at Division 2 Seattle Pacific University (WA) and Marshall Metzer (97’s) at Division 1 California State University-Fullerton all were a part of teams earning NCAA tournament berths. In addition, six players helped lead their teams to conference championships.
Many of these players received individual honors for their outstanding play. Six ere named to All-Region Teams. Christian Albrecht (94’s) of Norwich University (VT) was selected to the NSCAA NCAA Division 3 All-New England Region 2nd Team. Caitlin Espinoza and Brooke Milliet were both recognized on the NSCAA NCAA Division 2 All-South Central Region 2nd Team. Theodore Hooker (96’s) of Colorado College was selected to the NSCAA NCAA Division 3 All-West Region 3rd Team. Emily Cubbage was named to the NSCAA NCAA Division 1 All-Northeast Region 3rd Team. Alejandro Garcia-Lugo (97’s) of East Central College (MO) was named to the NJCAA All-Region 16 1st Team. Twelve players were named to their All-Conference team with Caitlin Espinoza named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and Christian Albrecht named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Defender of the Year each for the second consecutive season. Caitlin Espinoza was also recognized as the Fort Lewis College Outstanding Senior Female Athlete of the Year.
A number of players also received individual honors for excellence in the classroom. Twelve players were named to All-Academic Teams by their Conference with Lucy Chalgren (96’s) of West Texas A&M University, Emily Cubbage, Natalie DuBoise (96’s) of Lipscomb University (TN), Darin James (96’s) of South Dakota School of Mines, Shayla Malecki (95’s) of Fort Lewis College (CO) and Kaley Smith (94’s) of Kansas University selected to the 1st Team.
