Rio Rapids SC Scholarship Program & Community Outreach

  • $380,000+ in Player Scholarships Awarded since Fall 2015
  • Funding for the RRSC Scholarship program is achieved through club efforts such as the Rio Open Soccer Tournament, the Rio Rapids 5v5 summer league, the RRSC Golfing for Goals golf tournament, and corporate / private donations.
  • Rio Rapids, with financial support from Ethicon Endo Surgery, has run the “Soccer after School Program” at East San Jose Elementary school for 4th & 5th grade boys. RRSC also initiated the start-up of a Girl’s program. These programs were geared  to targeting “at-risk” kids in an attempt to provide an alternative to gangs.
  • Rio Rapids SC is started a program for South Valley kids in Fall 2011 to continue and build on the efforts initiated at East San Jose Elementary for “at-risk” kids in the South Valley community.
  • RRSC has followed up by providing scholarships to several East San Jose students, allowing them to play organized club soccer and will continue to do so for our new South Valley initiative.
  • Individual RRSC teams are encouraged to and have contributed time and effort in community endeavors such as: Ronald McDonald House, Susan B. Komen Walk for the Cure, Road Runner Food Bank, Make-A-Wish New Mexico, Support Our Troops Care Packages, organizing the effort and collecting soccer equipment for donation to Afghani children, Project Life Vest for Albuquerque Police Department and Katrina Victims Hygiene Packs.

Rio Rapids SC as Part of the Working Community

  • RRSC identifies young referees, providing an income source for High School age students.
  • RRSC currently has ~2,400 Soccer players in the State of New Mexico and Colorado.  This includes Club affiliations in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and in Durango, CO.
  • This large amount of players and family members support local restaurants and business. RRSC sponsors tournaments drawing teams from outside the Albuquerque Metro area and the state of New Mexico. This brings additional tourism dollars into the area as well as adding to Hotel/Motel occupancy rates.
  • A number of RRSC coaches and RRSC alumni are coaching in APS High School soccer programs. Many Rio Rapids SC alumni are returning to coach in the club with our younger players.
