Mike Erwin

Mike Erwin is the U13-14 Girls Director of Rio Rapids Soccer Club.  Mike is responsible for the implementation of the Rio Rapids curriculum and development of the under 13 and 14 girls in the club. He also coaches a U11G and a U14G team in the club. Mike is a native New Mexican and is an enrolled member of the Muscogee Creek Nation of Oklahoma. Mike grew up playing in Albuquerque club soccer including Rio Vista FC (now Rio Rapids).  He played soccer at Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Phoenix, Arizona and also played for the semi-pro Albuquerque Asylum. Mike has always valued the game and enjoys the opportunity to pass that enjoyment on to the youth of New Mexico.

Mike received his B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of New Mexico. He has coached for 12+ years in various clubs in Albuquerque and has been Director of Coaching for 8 years, and holds his USSF “C” license and his USSF National Youth license.  He enjoys fishing, golfing, playing soccer, and hanging out with his girlfriend and dogs in his free time. Mike is an ardent Liverpool F.C. supporter and also enjoys watching Major League Fishing.

Q: What drew you to become a part of Rio Rapids originally?
A: The staff and organization of the club drew me to Rio Rapids

Q: What is your favorite part about Rio Rapids SC ?
A: My favorite part is that as a staff, we are all trying to get better as coaches and are always looking on how to improve our players. This dedication goes beyond doing the job. It is clear the staff cares about the kids, the community, and the well being of soccer in New Mexico.

A: I am the U13-U14 girls director of coaching.

A: Went to England and saw the best team in the world (Liverpool FC) play two matches

A:  Seeing the growth in players, not just on the field, but as young adults.

A: Cell phone, for good or bad
