Inferno (minus Trey Robison plus 3 Cobras—Griffin Salvador, Ben Gannon and Luke Gannon) showed pretty well in 11v11 Gold bracket at Del Sol Desert Classic this weekend.  They placed 2nd in bracket play, with a 1-0 win over Colorado United (gotsoccer national ranked 144/region IV 58/CO 13), tied 2-2 to AZ Tanque Verde (Gotsoccer national ranked 27/Region IV 13/ AZ 7) after going down 2-0 until the last 10 minutes, and lost “only” 6-1 to Sereno 03 Chelsea East (gotsoccer national  ranked 1/Region VI 1/AZ 1).  Sereno shut out the other two teams 7-0 and 6-0.  When Inferno scored, Sereno’s coach looked over at Rob and me and said: “That’s the first shot we’ve allowed all weekend and the first goal we’ve allowed in a long time.”  He told us afterwards that they average less than 2 shots against per game in all competitions.  He was really impressed by Inferno’s fighting spirit despite having only about 5% possession.  He also gave our keeper, Nate Slota, high praise and told him that he did a fantastic job—Nate had to make probably a dozen real saves and a couple of ones that he shouldn’t have been able to make.  And Inferno had to play against Sereno on Sunday morning with only 2 subs after Nico came down with a fever.  Might have been a 6-2 “victory” if Nico was out there…
